CalArts held an interdisciplinary Digital Arts Expo yesterday, featuring innovative work from across the institute. The event was helmed by Ajay Kapur, Director of Music Technology and Associate Dean for Research and Development in Digital Arts.

Many dedicated students put long hours into creating, arranging, performing, leading and curating for the expo, including Hil Jaeger, Andrew Flores, Colin Honigman, Youngmin JooDavid Howe, Jason Jahnke, and Elijah Kleeman (to name just a few). Please enjoy this photo album by Andrew Flores showcasing artwork, musical robotics, and performances by members of the CalArts community.

Several films by Character Animation students were featured last night in the Roy O. Disney Concert Hall as well:

Our students each make one film per year (and sometimes more!), working extremely hard from initial concept to final render. They create their films individually, often sitting side by side in our computer labs and cubes, supporting each other and giving feedback. Their films are diverse in storytelling and design, and unified by a bold exploration of creativity and imagination.
Starting soon, we’ll feature one film per day, spotlighting each student filmmaker. Meantime, please enjoy all the films:

Mark Andrews, alum of our program, and director of Pixar’s “Brave,” kicked off the school year with a talk, a screening of the film, and a Q&A session. It was as lively and spirited as ever — lots of great discussion about his work and the film! Thanks to Mark for visiting, and we hope to see him back again soon. Thanks as well to Jennifer Dunlap from Pixar.
